The assessing authority for overseas nurses in Australia is the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). The IRON program is further divided into 2 categories which are the IRON program for enrolled nurses and the IRON program for registered nurses.

As of 1st October 2019, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) has established a new method by which overseas nurses will be assessed in order to be eligible to practice as a nurse in Australia


  • Evidence of overseas nursing registration
  • Have a suitable skills assessment/referral from AHPRA
  • Must have at least proficient English
  • Meet the health and character requirements
  • Must have at least 450 hours or 3 months of experience in last 5 years.
